Changes

It has been a rather long time since I have posted. So much has been going on in our lives. Marriages, grandbabies being born and loved, trips to favorite places, work and family time, saying goodbye to a few feathered loves....and hello to a special lil one as well. Hopefully life will settle and I can post more often.....I can try!

Well sadly I did say goodbye to my lil parrotlet Pixie and Bailey....may they know that I loved them dearly.

I am happy to introduce you all to my new lil love who happens to have hit it off with my Skittles! I look forward to many happy moments with them.......well may I introduce Coco!!!

He/she is a black headed caique. We are very young yet, only 14 weeks old. Is this not the cutest thing!

Here is Skittles getting acquainted with Coco.

Hopefully we will have many adventures and pictures to post!

I have also added these two lil loves as well and they are literally little loves! Misty and Sunny are the sweetest lil lovebirds : )

Skittles loves playing with these two as well, Sunny is in the front and Misty is snuggling right nest to Skittles.

February

February was a very quiet month for the fids, lots of indoor time as it was too wet and rainy or cold to go outside much.
Both Hemi and Bailey have settled into our room quite nicely, I actually think they prefer the quiet, calm atmosphere they get versus the ever busy, active, noise filled one they get in the hub of our home.
Of course the girls come into the room every now and then to pay the "big" birds a visit.....Chloe esp would love to get her hands on Hemi!
Hemi thinks not such a good idea.
We can hardly wait for the weather to change so we can spend some time outdoors! All the fids love hanging out in the backyard.

I tried to make Hemi's food dish a lil bit of a challenge.....I covered the dish with newspaper for Hemi to shred while foraging for food. It took all of 30 seconds for Hemi to figure it out! She bit the rubber band and off came the paper....will have to check into some different foraging techniques.
Bailey, is enjoying her biscuit....she loves to dunk her biscuits into her water dish....her feathers in front are coming in nicely too. Bailey tends to be a plucker, hopefully this time will be the last!

Merry Christmas!

Oh boy has it been a long time since my last post! So much has been going on around here.....weddings, holidays, family visits.
Hoping to get re-organized in the new year and really get better at posting on a regular schedule!
Birds are doing well, I must confess they are not getting as much one on one time with me as they should be but that will be changing!
So more posts, more pics! : ) real soon!!!!!
Until then we pray everyone out there has a wonderfully blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year!

It has been a rather busy month, especially with the wedding quickly approaching! Oh my I still have a ton of work to do!!!! I have managed to get a few pics of the fids....not all of them though.
Hemi is a wonderful paper shredder!
I have been trying to handle Weezer a lot more, hope to really pluck down and get some major cuddling done after the wedding. Weezer really does like to be handled.
Hemi has been counting! : ) She only gets to four at the moment but she is trying! her favorite numbers appear to be 2 and 4, she will repeat them through out the day.

Playtime

Bailey enjoying her day......making sure Mom had plenty to do.....wouldn't want her to get bored you know. Bailey was munching on seeds.....sunflower seeds....a real treat!
Hemi was wondering what Bailey was doing....Hemi is very curious.
Tilly, letting me know she did not want cuddle time, but one day I just know she will love it! I love her color!
My lil Weezer, she now does love to be held and cuddled! Phew!!! she is such a sweetheart.
My daily find on the floor.....yes, I looooooove to sweep! : )
Caught Bailey munching on her seed.
Hemi couldn't take it anymore and had to go see what Bailey was up to. These two have not made friends yet....they tend to give each other space and ignore one another....on the sly! They are always watching what the other is doing. I do not leave these two alone at all when they are this close.....I am always with them making sure they are safe.
Bailey pretending not to look at Hemi, Hemi kind of not looking at Bailey but you know they sure do have eyes on one another! ; )
Hemi discovered a toy! have to go investigate!
I love this shot! Bailey came up to the camera to say "howdy"
Hemi having fun with the toy after I showed her how the lil doodads work.
After an afternoon of playing it was time to preen.....then nap!

A New Fid in the Family

Introducing....Hemi.
She came to us via a co-worker whose life just got a bit busy with kids and activities.....been there can so relate! She wanted Hemi to have a home that would have time to give her attention....considering that I am a bird nut, a home body.....the description fit me to a T!
Isn't Hemi a beauty? I am hoping she comes to love us as much as I have fallen for her already! She is a sweetheart.
Since she came "home" late in the evening we decided to keep things on a low, calm quiet way. She did chat with us as we ate dinner.....cute to hear her chortles, whistles and chatter.....she hasn't called for Frank yet, maybe she knows that Frank is no longer in the same house as she is! They are intelligent creatures.

As much as I love other critters, birds have totally stolen my heart! I love their beauty, their need for companionship and their brain power. Each species of bird has amazing talents! Never ever under estimate a bird!
Peek a boo, she is very inquisitive of her new surroundings. She was introduced to Bailey today, Bailey being true to form exchanged greetings by flapping his wings and bobbing his head......Hemi was not impressed! : )
I will keep exposing them to one another slowly, until they become accustomed to one another. The Tiels, Tilly and Weezer were just as impressed as Hemi was of Bailey! Oh well.....in time they will all get used to each others music.
One of the most beautiful features of a grey, their red tails.
Music, Hmmmm wonder what type of music Hemi likes, we will have to play all kinds until we find the right beat ; )
Here we are preening, keeps a bird busy quite a good amount of the day! Have to look good you know! One of the many pleasures of keeping a bird is the amount of noise they make and the amount of dust and food they fling everywhere! Cleaning must be a hobby of yours if you want to be a bird owner!
Birds love to get into everything! So one must have "bird friendly" toys around or they will go for your wood! Of course a bird should never be left unsupervised when out of its cage. I do tend to keep an open door policy with Bailey......she knows to a point what is acceptable and not acceptable to get her beak on. Hemi will be in the training schedule......open door as long as I am around to keep an eye on her.
The tiels rarely have their doors open as they are not a brave sort of bird, they feel much more comfortable with their door shut. Hemi is wondering how she can get in.....there must be some good snacks in there!
So, as you can imagine.....home can be quite noisy......there is no sleeping in when you have birds for pets....they are up with the sun! They chatter, squawk, whistle all day long except when it is naptime.....it can be sooooo peaceful then : ) .......one can never over talk a parrot either! The louder you get well not to be outdone, the louder they get!
Home is also in the midst of cleaning all the time.....food flung on the floor, walls, water dishes to clean a few times a day.....food to prepare, yes I do cook for them......grains, beans, veggies and more!
They keep me busy but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Oh, and yes..... they are great cuddlers!

Bailey Updates

I am trying really hard to keep this lil white chicken as I so lovingly call him that from plucking! It is a vicious battle at times but I think we have managed to divert his attention elsewhere. It just takes a lot of time with us and an open door policy.....hence he lives in a cage but never locked in the cage.
In this pic, Bailey is enjoying a lil bit of Italian sausage....yes, he is a big time meat eater!
Bailey and my daughter's love Izzy. They do love one another and Izzy even will sleep by Bailey's cage at night.....she learned quite quickly not to sleep too close tho as a bird will plop when it wants! Bailey is nudging Izzy for a scritch......this is how Bailey asks for scritches.....rubbing his head until you relent.
Bailey loves loves music! Here he is with hubby.
Bailey also loves food! He was really into hubby's dish of enchilada casserole!
Well thats it for now....we are just waiting for the warm sunny weather to come so we can have fun outdoors! One of my goals this year is getting a nice bird aviary set up outside, we do have hawks in the area so we have to be extra careful when the birds are out.
