Bailey Updates

I am trying really hard to keep this lil white chicken as I so lovingly call him that from plucking! It is a vicious battle at times but I think we have managed to divert his attention elsewhere. It just takes a lot of time with us and an open door policy.....hence he lives in a cage but never locked in the cage.

Bailey and my daughter's love Izzy. They do love one another and Izzy even will sleep by Bailey's cage at night.....she learned quite quickly not to sleep too close tho as a bird will plop when it wants! Bailey is nudging Izzy for a scritch......this is how Bailey asks for scritches.....rubbing his head until you relent.

Bailey also loves food! He was really into hubby's dish of enchilada casserole!

Well thats it for now....we are just waiting for the warm sunny weather to come so we can have fun outdoors! One of my goals this year is getting a nice bird aviary set up outside, we do have hawks in the area so we have to be extra careful when the birds are out.

Update

Woke up this morning and found lil drops of blood and feathers here and there.....sadly Bailey has started plucking again! I am hoping that in making the decision to have her live in an open cage rather than in a closed one will help....Bailey did get time out of the cage but obviously was not happy with that. So he will have his door open all the time with the exception....when we are out of the house. Hope he stops plucking! It took a year to get his feathers to grow in nicely the last time this happened.

The tiels are doing well.....chatting with me every morning. Weezer has actually quit going crazy when I handle her! She actually enjoys her few minutes with me : ) Tilly on the other hand lets me know in her way that she does not approve of me handling her as much. I will keep working on her tho for I really do want them both to be comfortable being handled.

Oh My!

So the last time I posted was in Oct.?! I really need to get better at this blogging thing!

So update

The tiels are doing well.....Weezer is still leery of us but loves to be held, it's just that whole learning to step up thing that she doesn't like I think.

Tilly, oh Tilly....loves the attention but does not like being handled too much.

Both of them "chat" with me to let me know when they want attention or food! So cute : )

I will continue to work on their handling issues, it will just take time I think.

Bailey has begun to pluck again! I am thinking it must be the cold dark days of winter.....so extra attention will be given to him.

I really want to make a big play gym for the birds......maybe that will help Bailey too.

The green piranhas have gone to new homes. They were just a bit too much and they were continuously attacking the other birds, so with some regret and sadness I had to let them go.

I will try to get better at posting on here regularly.....and start posting pics too, until then

Update

Mazi and Harley are now sharing a home! : ) For the most part they get along and yes, they do get a breather from one another by having out of the cage time on a daily basis.

Mazi is in love with Hubby! He readily will step onto his hand and loves to spend time with him. I can handle him at times...still nips when it is time to get back into the cage tho'.

Harley has shifted his adoration from my husband to me in the last few months, I try to handle him although I am not very trusting of him yet. It makes it easy to "handle" him since he is stick trained to step up tho'. I am not giving up.....I am determined to make him my lil buddy that won't nip.

The tiels are doing really well with their time out of the cage! They actually are enjoying the cuddles and scritches!

New babies to love!

Bird above is Weezer, one of my new tiels! They have been here for a few weeks now. Weezer is a rather nervous birdy.....acts like she is wheezing everytime I handle her or something surprises her....hence the name Weezer. Her previous owners did not name her at all....kind of sad don't ya think? I am slowly getting her used to being handled. I really don't think it will take long.
Tilly is such a sweetheart! She will already call for me, unlike Weezer she does like to be held

She doesn't holler like Weezer does when one is out of the cage. Tilly is such a tiel! So very gentle and loving.
