A New Fid in the Family

Introducing....Hemi.
She came to us via a co-worker whose life just got a bit busy with kids and activities.....been there can so relate! She wanted Hemi to have a home that would have time to give her attention....considering that I am a bird nut, a home body.....the description fit me to a T!
Isn't Hemi a beauty? I am hoping she comes to love us as much as I have fallen for her already! She is a sweetheart.
Since she came "home" late in the evening we decided to keep things on a low, calm quiet way. She did chat with us as we ate dinner.....cute to hear her chortles, whistles and chatter.....she hasn't called for Frank yet, maybe she knows that Frank is no longer in the same house as she is! They are intelligent creatures.

As much as I love other critters, birds have totally stolen my heart! I love their beauty, their need for companionship and their brain power. Each species of bird has amazing talents! Never ever under estimate a bird!
Peek a boo, she is very inquisitive of her new surroundings. She was introduced to Bailey today, Bailey being true to form exchanged greetings by flapping his wings and bobbing his head......Hemi was not impressed! : )
I will keep exposing them to one another slowly, until they become accustomed to one another. The Tiels, Tilly and Weezer were just as impressed as Hemi was of Bailey! Oh well.....in time they will all get used to each others music.
One of the most beautiful features of a grey, their red tails.
Music, Hmmmm wonder what type of music Hemi likes, we will have to play all kinds until we find the right beat ; )
Here we are preening, keeps a bird busy quite a good amount of the day! Have to look good you know! One of the many pleasures of keeping a bird is the amount of noise they make and the amount of dust and food they fling everywhere! Cleaning must be a hobby of yours if you want to be a bird owner!
Birds love to get into everything! So one must have "bird friendly" toys around or they will go for your wood! Of course a bird should never be left unsupervised when out of its cage. I do tend to keep an open door policy with Bailey......she knows to a point what is acceptable and not acceptable to get her beak on. Hemi will be in the training schedule......open door as long as I am around to keep an eye on her.
The tiels rarely have their doors open as they are not a brave sort of bird, they feel much more comfortable with their door shut. Hemi is wondering how she can get in.....there must be some good snacks in there!
So, as you can imagine.....home can be quite noisy......there is no sleeping in when you have birds for pets....they are up with the sun! They chatter, squawk, whistle all day long except when it is naptime.....it can be sooooo peaceful then : ) .......one can never over talk a parrot either! The louder you get well not to be outdone, the louder they get!
Home is also in the midst of cleaning all the time.....food flung on the floor, walls, water dishes to clean a few times a day.....food to prepare, yes I do cook for them......grains, beans, veggies and more!
They keep me busy but I wouldn't have it any other way!
Oh, and yes..... they are great cuddlers!
